Silex
Silex is one of the rare projects where we designed both the architecture and the full interior. Completed in 2021, the house stands as a radical experiment in contemporary living. The concept was to build a home with the raw language of an industrial factory: concrete walls, exposed metal structures, visible ventilation and electricity, and a construction carried out by a company specialized in industrial buildings. This approach pushed the boundaries of simplicity, transforming roughness into elegance. The challenge was amplified by the client’s lifestyle. Coming from a grand classic residence filled with antiques, they moved directly into this uncompromising, industrially built house. None of their artworks or finishes were chosen by us. Instead, their vast collection of antique furniture and objects was placed within the contemporary shell. The result is a powerful and surprising dialogue between two universes, where time-worn history inhabits sharp-edged architecture. We designed every architectural and interior element: cabinetry, bathrooms, flooring conceived as giant tatami, bespoke wooden details, and bamboo lighting. Only the furniture was introduced by the clients, creating a tension and energy between the raw envelope and the richness of their collection. The house becomes both frame and stage, a container for memory as well as a manifesto of reduction. An echo can be found in Lina Bo Bardi’s Glass House in São Paulo, where modernist structure and personal objects coexist without compromise. In Silex, the same spirit resonates. It is a home where contemporary architecture meets intimate heritage, a place of contrast and connection.
